poem - salt water

image

salt water

In this small desert

I can’t sit still

as I was

in the waves

I dove under.

It happened there—

the whirlwind—

a mass of shimmering bodies

around me

and I could not move

breathe

hear

the fish mirror the light into me

so close I’m dizzy

frightened beyond measure though

they never touch me.

I am here with it,

in this desert

still salted with light.
